Subject: Senior Fine Arts Show To Whom It May Concern (because it sure does concern me),
I am writing as a senior at Franklin Pierce University, a person who has placed a lot of time, love and frustration into her college-ahem-university education.
I am writing for recognition. Not only for myself, but for the 13 other students that will be graduating on May 17th with a degree in Fine Arts. I am writing because it seems to me that all of our effort and hard work has gone by completely unnoticed in the Franklin Pierce community.
I am angry because our Senior Fine Arts Show, the one thing that we do over the course of our student careers that showcases everything that we have done while attending FPU, has been open for over a month now and there has not been a single article written about it. There was a photo put on the last page of one of the school papers, with a very condescending blurb about how our show, Cramped: BIG IDEAS, little spaces, was not really cramped at all because of all of the space we had across campus... and no one even bothered to ask how long it took and how hard it was to get those extra spaces.
I am an active student within the realm of the fine arts department and I know we are often misunderstood. Campus tours come through the bottom floor of Monadnock and blurt out completely untrue information to the prospective students. I know that there is not enough space in our classrooms, we don't have enough full time faculty, and people come through and deface or steal our artwork and supplies. I know all of the work that students put into their fine arts classes which are HARD and fun, not just something that you might be able to get into your senior year when you need an 'easy elective' to take.
I am writing because the Fine Arts department and its students need the respect and recognition they deserve. Everyone should know that we did an amazing job on our senior show, and I am proud whether we are recognized or not.
