Candylicious: a sweet situation

On October 31, with Halloween night just hours away, students were found in the glass foyer celebrating the spirit of Halloween by devouring candy apples, Mini Melts ice cream and chocolate fondue thanks to Pierce Activities Council (PAC) sponsoring the first ever "Candylicious." Candy at the event was free to students and it took place between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Students supported the event by showing up in large numbers and digging into the sweet treats that were available. "It's been amazing, at one point we were even running low on candy apples, the response has been great," said PAC's Special Events Chair, Ashley Menswar." Each month PAC has to put on a event free of charge that will allow students to get involved and enjoy themselves between classes and this month's candy themed event was well thought out with Halloween happening. "[PAC] figured candy would be a good idea since students are too old to go trick-or-treating," said Menswar. "We wanted to do something that reminded people of Halloween, but without the pumpkins or haunted house. Therefore, the next best thing is candy." The large response and involvement from students was welcomed by the organization. PAC member Saige Kelmelis said, "['Candylicious'] has been one of the most successful events that PAC has put on." Both Kelmelis and Menswar were overwhelmed with the amount of success the event had and the amount of students that turned out. "It has been amazing everyone who has come out has responded greatly and some people have even come back twice." Planning the event was not a lot of work compared to some past event put on by PAC, though it was an enjoyable one, according to Mensaw. "Having an event with food is always going to be successful, but the hard part is trying to figure out what type of food is best while staying within the budget. The fact that Sodexo is providing the chocolate fondue and candy/caramel apples helps a lot though," Mensaw said. Students who enjoyed "Candylicious" should be prepared for similar events in the upcoming months. Kelmelis said "PAC will definitely be doing more stuff like this in the future." If students would like to get involved in events like "Candylicious," Menswar suggests joining PAC; meetings are every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Monadnock Lounge.
