Screaming fans filled the crowd on Monday October 27 at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston for Jamn' 94.5's Monster Jam. Girls with homemade T-shirts saying things like "I'm Weezy's girl," or "Lil' Wayne is my hubby." Clearly, the crowd was psyched to see Cash Money Records own Lil' Wayne. Also on the lineup was Yung Berg, Brandy, Ne-Yo, and Jay-Z. The concert started out with Yung Berg performing some of his popular songs, "da business," and "hey sexy ladies." Because he was one of the first performers, he only got to perform about 10 minutes. I felt he did extremely well for being the first act. He was not at all nervous and the ladies loved him once he threw his satin green scarf out into the audience. Following him was Brandy, and her brother Ray-J, also another rap artist. This is the first time in almost five years since Brandy has performed for an audience. She has made a comeback this year with a new CD featuring a popular song, "Right Here." She sang a few of her oldies such as "The Boy is Mine," and "Full Moon." I had a great time watching her, because it was nice to go back in time to her old days. Her brother Ray-J also sang a bit with her as well. I don't believe he was one of the guest performers, but that he just showed up to be with her on her first performance. Ne-Yo was up next and everyone went wild. Though I think they went wild because they knew Lil' Wayne was up next. Ne-Yo performed for almost 45 minutes with all of his hit songs such as "Closer," "Miss Independent," and "Go on Girl." One thing about Ne-Yo though is during every break between songs, he kept telling the audience to go out and buy his CD. I felt he was being cocky about himself, saying we all needed to go buy his CD or else we would die or something. He ended his performance saying that we were all in for a real treat for the rest of the show. The jumbotron stated that Lil Wayne was up next and the crowd went wild. I handed my drink to my boyfriend and ran to the bathroom before he was due on stage. I came back 5 minutes later and the tech crew was setting up his stage, and his band was getting ready. 20 minutes pass and he still wasn't on stage. By this time it was around 8:45. Ne-Yo had finished at 8:15 so the audience was getting antsy. Finally, around 9, the lights went out and his band started to play as if he was coming on and everyone started screaming and yelling with excitement. They played for 10 minutes and then the lights went back on. Everyone was confused and angry. "Where is Lil Wayne!!" people screamed. A DJ came on and began playing all of these random songs and the next thing we knew, it was 9:45! People were starting to leave and getting really pissed off and booing. The DJ came on and said "Lil Wayne is no longer in the building so Jay-Z will be on now." The tech crew starts taking down Lil Wayne's set and setting up Jay-Z's. I couldn't believe it and neither could everyone else. I am sure there were people that had come just to see him. Jay-Z blew everyone away with his show. He played almost all of his most popular songs from over the years. One thing I didn't like was how he promoted Barack Obama. Yeah, we are a Democratic state, but for him to basically tell us to vote for Obama really angered me. I do not like Obama one bit, but Jay-Z decided to also make up a rap about Bush being a bad president and not helping out victims of Katrina. He incorporated photos and everything, and concluded the rap saying "We Need Change," and a giant picture of Obama's head was all over the jumbotrons. Jay-Z knew everyone was upset about Lil Wayne, so he kept telling us that if we wanted to go home, he could just stop and head out to his private jet that was waiting for him. No one wanted the concert to end early so he decided to play double the time he was supposed to. Other than that, he really did save the show which made the guests happy. Once the concert ended, I heard everyone outside saying they were never coming back to see the show because of Lil Wayne. Wayne performed a similar stunt at last year's show, showing up 45 minutes late to perform. Jamn' 94.5 needs to re-think who they invite to perform, and make sure they actually come. Later that night, I referred to my trusty gossip websites and found out that the reason Lil Wayne didn't show up was because he refused to go through security and threw a tantrum. Once he was finally calmed down and did go through security, his crew didn't want to go through it so they ended up just leaving. That's unbelievable because he lost a ton of fans that night and a lot of respect from his fans. Though Lil Wayne is still my favorite rap artist, I do hope that he learns from this that he can't just stand up his fans because he is too high on his horse.
