A poetic experiment

Up in the morning to that eastern blinding sun Off to DnD's for a quick breakfast run The coffee iced and awaking, deliciously cold Waiting for a day in the Big Apple to unfold

By 8 a.m. the coach bus wheels were rolling 12, 202, 2, 91 and 95 numbers most know well Not getting much sleep the night before The hangover bell blues ringing loud, tolling My eyes, heavy, making it really hard to spell Be hearing soon the city that never sleeps, it's roaring

Many thanks go out to Jacki Alessio The PAC Travel coordinator endured months of planning Her hard work paid off, it definitely shows 37 FP students up early but still smiling Visions of Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day Lewis begin to appear No milkshakes at hand, No drinking allowed The fighting of Gangs of New York I begin to hear New Hampshire and Massachusetts begin to choke on our dust cloud

The city skyline appears in the distance I-95 into the city dodging traffic very tricky Hitting every light down to the Battery slowed us down Finally landing at Battery Park by flying on the seats of our pants The streets seems fairly clean only somewhat icky Thru strict security our group emerges and is Statue of Liberty bound

Time being tight a choice became apparently at hand Most chose Liberty Island as their point to land Others stayed on the cruise heading for the next port of call Ellis Island, the next stop, a place history buffs can have a ball

3:30 p.m. a deadline set in stone for our next activity A sweet double-decker bus tour around the city Our tour guide, a true New Yorker, Peter his name He told us to "forgettaboutit" a line that garners fame

Starbucks is the unofficial bathroom of NYC An interesting fact Peter pointed out Cruising on a double-decker bus on a fifty degree day It was a good thing people brought their coats for it was chilly Got stuck in traffic found out what street symphony was all about One lasting fact Peter said stay out of Times Square or you'll pay

Two blocks west of Broadway and we were deep in the real Hell's Kitchen To avoid the over priced tourist traps we went in search of a dinner bargain Our fun all most gone and our dinner certainly done Now the rush to make it back to the bus on time had definitely begun

Going up Broadway to 53rd Street to the house of Letterman was no easy feat Zigging and zagging fighting the current like salmon every spring Taking pictures under David's studio marquee was a definite treat Travelling back, Armageddon came on, a moment for Steven Tyler to sing Is he singing to me? Singing me to sleep? After this tiring day I won't make a peep

Junior Crista Fontana was excited to visit the historic site "I wanted to see the Statue of Liberty since I was little" Senior Kyle Donahue admitted he had a fun time "I really had a good time. This was a good trip." Even after being teased about post offices by our tour guide

The Pierce Activities Council sponsored this trip For further detail on future trips send them an e-mail pac@franklinpierce.edu
