The annual movie night on the softball field, planned for May 2, was pushed back to Wednesday, May 5 because of thunderstorms.

The decision was made around noon when the weather reported a 65% chance of thunderstorms Sunday evening.

A giant blow-up obstacle course, a large trampoline with a harness for flips and jumps, giant Connect Four and Jenga games, and wax hands were just some of the events that still took place on Sunday afternoon. Because Pierce Activities Council’s “Fun Day” was rained out on Wednesday, April 28, they also were able to have some of the items that couldn’t be used then.

On Wednesday evening, after the sun set, “Sherlock Holmes” was shown. Pierce Pride Nalgene bottles were give-aways both days. Pierce Activities Council provided food and drinks for the second year in a row. In regards to the new events, Danielle Russell, Class of 2012 president, said, “We wanted to have a different appeal so that it wasn’t a repeat for students [who went last year].”

The Class of 2012 co-sponsored the event with the Class of 2013. “Last year we planned it with this year’s senior class. We wanted to plan the event with this year’s freshman class so that next year they can plan the event with new freshman,” said Russell.  “At the beginning of the year when we first started SGA, the sophomore class told us that this is an annual event which the sophomore class hosts and have the freshman class assist to show them the ropes,” said Nicolas Thistle, Class of 2013 secretary.

Over 150 students took place in voting in an online survey for the movie. Some of the other options for the movie were “Where the Wild Things Are,” “The Hangover,”  “Billy Madison,” and “Happy Gilmore.”

“We hoped for a larger turnout than we had last year,” said Russell, who said the previous year’s chilly weather resulted in fewer students than they had expected. This year cold weather wasn’t a problem, as temperatures on Sunday were in the 80’s during the event.
