On Wednesday November 18th, Vh1’s Save the Music Foundation hosted a kick-off party to its annual fundraiser at the W Hotel in New York City. The “Vh1 Big Shopping” is a fundraiser, where people from around the world can go online and purchase items from their favorite companies. A portion of each purchase is contributed to the Save the Music Foundation.
Over 40 top brand companies signed onto the fundraiser this year. Brands like Lego Rock Band, Crabtree & Evelyn, and Fiji Water were all in attendance. These companies gave away their products to celebrity guests, as well as other attendees of the event. “Big Shopping” hosts included the star of MTV’s “The City,” Whitney Port, actor Billy Burke, and Grammy nominated artist Chrisette Michele. Other guests of the event included singer/songwriter Vanessa Carlton, runway coach and America’s Next Top Model judge Ms. J Alexander, and American Idol fifth season runner-up Katharine McPhee.
Vh1’s Save the Music Foundation has been helping America’s public school system for over a decade by raising awareness about the importance of music as part of a child’s complete education. The foundation believes that music incorporated during the regular school day benefits the lives of children tremendously.
Unlike other foundations that donate money and walk away, the Save the Music Foundation actually goes into schools to see what instruments and music supplies are needed. The Foundation donates the actual items to the school, instead of a check that might not go to the children.
I believe this foundation needs to be recognized for its amazing contributions to inner-city schools, and what better way than by going shopping! I hope that everyone can help the foundation in some way this holiday season. At the event there were five things I thought everyone should check out this holiday season! You can buy all of the products online at: VH1BIGSHOPPING.COM
1.) EOS Products: The evolution of smooth
The evolution of smooth product line includes lip balm, body lotion, and shave cream. The lip balm is 95% organic and is petrolatum & paraben free. It is a long lasting moisturizer including shea butter & vitamin E. It goes on clear and is available in a stick and easy applying sphere. The shave cream can be used wet or dry, is paraben-free, and is enhanced with aloe and shea butter. The EOS line of products are all MUST HAVE items for a New England winter. I cannot live without my summer fruit lip balm sphere, and I think those who buy these products will feel the same way.
2.) Ucreate Music by Matel
This digital music making system is a fun gift for those young and old. You can be your own DJ by recording samples, creating mash-ups, and adding loops to your favorite songs. With the purchase of the toy, you can access an online library of music, special effects, and filters. Best of all it easily plugs into your computer through a USB.
3.) skyn ICELAND
The skyn ICELAND products, in my opinion, are life-saving! This skin care line is specially designed to treat stressed skin. The products are developed with the use of Iceland’s glacial waters. The Icelandic Relief Eye Cream treats dark circles under the eyes with a soothing and healing lotion that goes on clear. The Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels are the perfect cure for exhaustion. The half-moon shaped gel pads nicely fit just underneath the eye and deliver an instant cooling relief that can get you through the rest of the day.
4.) Lego Rock Band
Even the most unskilled, uncoordinated individual like me can play this game and actually have fun doing it! This new edition to the Rock Band family was released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. It includes Lego themed game-play and was designed to be family-friendly!
5.) Generation Change, by: Jayan Kalathil and Melissa Bolton-Klinger
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” This quote from President Barak Obama is the basis for the book. This book is divided into three sections titled “change ourselves,” “change our country,” and “change our world.” All three sections give about 50 examples of how exactly to create this change. The book also included websites at the end of each section to help give the reader that extra push to initiate the change and start living a better life. It is very inspirational for all ages, but especially for the younger generations. It is the perfect gift to give this holiday season!
