The Franklin Pierce University Golf Team tied for fourth place with Nichols on Thursday April 15, in the WNEC invitational at Veteran’s Golf course in Springfield, MA.
The fourth place finish in a 12 team field marked the sixth time this season alone that Franklin Pierce has placed in the top five at the conclusion of tournament play. The Ravens shot a 29 over 317 which was eleven strokes behind the winner of the tournament, Babson College.
Sophomore Brian Fleckles finished the highest out of the Raven golfers in a five-way tie for eighth place by shooting a six over par 78.
“I felt that I played pretty well. I hit the ball and putted pretty well, but I left a lot of shots out there that could have improved my place in the standings,” said Fleckles.
Two of Fleckles’ teammates, freshman Ian Landry and senior Brandon Weiner, would also finish in the top fifteen in the tournament by shooting a 79 which was good for thirteenth overall.
“I felt that my performance today was just okay,” said Weiner. “I played a great front nine shooting a one over 37 but then fell apart on the back shooting a 42. I felt like I was on pace to finish in the top three after the front nine but I lost it towards the end of the day.”
Also in action for the Ravens was sophomore William Powers, who shot a nine over par which was good enough for 26 place, and senior Derek Flodin shooting a 92 for a 55 place finish.
“As a team we were really excited to turnout a solid performance at WNEC and finish in the top five in the tournament. We just need to keep playing with confidence and knowing that we can compete at a high level,” said Fleckles.
