As the season winds down for the women’s tennis team, they continue to struggle, trailing 0-3 this past week with losses to Saint Anselm, Assumption, and Merrimack.

The Saint Anselm Hawks defeated the women’s team 9-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play hosted by Franklin Pierce. The Ravens put up a good fight, especially when senior Bianca LaPointe had one of her best performances in her singles match. “I think our main problem is not finding our groove and settling down in matches,” said junior Lauren Smilovich. With such a large deficit, the Hawks were able to receive at least one win for each of their players in either the singles or doubles for the day.

The Ravens then found themselves falling behind in their match against Assumption.  The Greyhounds hosted the match and did not ease up their play on the court. They took it to the Ravens, giving them their second loss of the week falling short 9-0 for the regular season Northeast-10 Conference play. The Ravens battled for a win to set them back on track. “The motivation of the team has been affected by certain circumstances, such as weather and injury, which I think has a certain role in the mental state,” said Smilovich.

The team came to the court on April 11 determined to earn a victory, but once again fell short to Merrimack. During the second round of doubles, both LaPointe and Smilovich teamed up to face Mollie Fitzgerald and Kylie Waddington of Merrimack but were overcome by a score of 8-3. “I know I have been making some dumb, unforced errors and every match I am working to fix that. The team has great potential, we just need to get it together and build on the progress we have made thus far,” said Smilovich.

The team now falls to 1-10 in their conference and looks to take on Southern New Hampshire at their court on April 17 at 3 p.m. Their final regular conference match will be at American International on April 18 at 1:30 p.m.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The women's tennis team finished their last two matches of the season 1-1 with a 0-9 loss against Southern New Hampshire University and a 9-0 sweep against American International College. After those two matches, the women's tennis team finished their season with a 2-11 overall record.
